Pinterest Traffic Converts
A quick guide to running Pinterest ads

Have you tried Pinterest ads yet?
Pinterest has been one of my favorite traffic sources for years now. And their ad platform is only getting better.
It’s one of the best places to get consistent, high quality, highly targeted traffic. The reason for this is their demographics, and the way in which users interact with Pinterest like a search engine.
Pinterest’s Unique Audience Demographics
Pinterest has a distinct user base that sets it apart from other social media platforms. Here’s a snapshot of who’s using Pinterest:
Predominantly Female Audience: About 60% of Pinterest users are women, but the platform is gaining traction among men, with nearly 40% of new sign-ups being male.
High Income, High Spend: Pinterest users tend to have higher household incomes, with 45% of US Pinterest users earning over $100,000 annually. This makes them more likely to make purchases, especially when they’re actively searching for ideas and solutions.
Millennials and Gen Z Dominance: Over 50% of Millennials and 80% of Millennial moms use Pinterest, along with a growing Gen Z user base. This is significant because these groups are known for their tech-savviness and online shopping habits.
Pinterest Users are Primed to Purchase
Unlike other social media platforms where users primarily engage with friends and entertainment content, Pinterest serves as a visual discovery engine where users actively seek inspiration for their next project, purchase, or lifestyle change.
According to Pinterest’s data, 97% of searches on Pinterest are unbranded, meaning users are open to discovering new brands and products. This makes Pinterest Ads particularly powerful for marketers looking to introduce their products to a receptive audience.
Leveraging Pinterest Trends Tool
Pinterest’s Trends Tool is an invaluable resource for marketers. It allows you to explore what topics and keywords are trending on the platform in real time, making it easier to plan your content and ad strategy.
If you’re selling hummingbird feeders, for example, you would type in “hummingbird feeders” into the Pinterest Trends Tool and it will show you how that keyword is trending on Pinterest, show you Pins that come up for that search, show you the demographics of those searching for it, and suggest other keywords for you to target.

Targeting Your Niche with Pinterest Keywords
One of the standout features of Pinterest Ads is the ability to target users based on keywords, much like you would with Google Ads. This allows you to get hyper-specific with your audience targeting, showing your ads to users actively searching for terms related to your products or services.
So to use the example above, if you were selling hummingbird feeders, you would create a pin (1000 × 1500px) similar to the one below, and target 5 to 10 keywords based around hummingbird feeders.

Keywords you could target:

hummingbird feeder
hummingbird food
unique bird feeders
diy hummingbird food
I decided to test the campaign above to make sure my advice held up (I have access to a hummingbird feeder affiliate offer that pays out $43/sale), and lo and behold it worked.
82 conversions and $3,526 in sales, and I only ended up spending $178.47 (to be fair the pin did go viral on Pinterest, but it was still profitable and wouldn’t have gone viral without this strategy. This strategy gave it the push it needed).

Conclusion
Pinterest Ads provide a unique blend of search and social media advertising that’s perfect for internet marketers looking to reach a high-intent, affluent audience.
With tools like Pinterest Trends, robust keyword targeting, and a user base primed to discover and purchase new products, it’s a platform that shouldn’t be overlooked.
If you’re not already advertising on Pinterest, now is the time to consider incorporating it into your marketing strategy.
